Computer cops and touching times
Since we bought you the story of the Facebooking fugitive tracked down through his status updates, NSW police have decided to embrace social networking in a bid to track down wanted criminals.
Focusing primarily on Twitter and Youtube, the police have created their own NSW Police Youtube channel, as well as a regularly updated Twitter account. The police hope that by using the power of social networking, they’ll be able to solve more crimes - particularly those committed under the watch of CCTV cameras.
Speaking to Australian IT, NSW Police public affairs director Strath Gordon said that police are also using such sites to make direct contact with individuals wanted for particular incidents. "We are using Twitpics to seek assistance finding missing persons or people wanted over particular crimes,'' Mr Gordon said. "Today, we tweeted a guy wanted over a fraud matter.''
In touching news, the next big development for your everyday PC will be finger driven touchscreen technology. For those who have already boarded the Windows 7 bandwagon, you’ve probably heard that the software has built-in features that will come alive when uploaded to a touch-compatible device.
If you’re keen to see what touchscreen technology can bring to your business, there are a number of new desktop products on the market that are worth investigating. If you like what you see, (or touch, as the case may be) we here at Sharkey Media can help you with optimising your online offerings to take advantage of the growing legion of screen-poking fans.
