Google, Firefox and... Burberry?
It’s been a big few weeks for the good people of Google. As announced yesterday morning (US time) on their blog, Google have acquired AdMob - a mobile display advertising company based in California.
Responsible for many of those little banner ads that flash across your free iPhone apps, as well as the advertising on some mobile specific websites, AdMob was founded in 2006 by an unsatisfied mobile-webmaster named Omar Hamoui.
Google said that the deal will “bring new innovation and competition to mobile advertising, and will lead to more effective tools for creating, serving, and analyzing emerging mobile ads formats.” We here at Sharkey Media are excited to learn more about this deal and see how we can apply the changes to interested clients.
Yesterday was also a big day for web browser Firefox, who got to blow the five candles out from atop their landscape-changing, much loved birthday cake. Born out of some dark and defeated days of parent company Mozilla, little Firefox has grown into a market leader, stimulating and inspiring other companies to chase it down with brighter and better browsers.
If you thought your company was beyond using a little social networking technology, check out high fashion label Burberry’s latest attempt: Art of the Trench. A fashion icon for the last 95 years, the Burberry trench coat is still worn by many of the world’s famous fashionistas. To continue to build on their traditional heritage but still maintain a modern twist, the company have launched the website as a way to show and share the way people wear their coats and what the signature house piece means to them.
As she told the New York Times, Burberry boss Angela Ahrendts gets marketing inspiration from her web-savvy children which has resulted in a popular Facebook fan page, as well as Twitter and Youtube success. And, not surprisingly given their approach, Burberry have weathered the recent financial storm with success not seen by many of their contemporaries.
