Google v Apple and YouTube 2009

The word around the tech-world today is that Google are attempting to take over that other global giant: Apple. Not only is the Nexus One rumoured for an early January 2010 release, but TechCrunch have suggested a Google branded “Netbook” may also be on the cards for next year. While it was said the Google Chrome operating system will run only on Google-approved hardware, it’s looking like Google are chasing their own piece of the hardware pie. Although the Chrome browser is snapping at the heels of Apple’s Safari, will a Google-branded computer have the stamina to chase down the iMac?

Following in the style of Google and Ask.com, YouTube have released lists of the most watched videos in 2009. And, not unlike the Google Australia results, our local results are fairly interestingly insightful:

Top five most watched YouTube videos overall in Australia:

  1. Susan Boyle - Singer - Britains Got Talent 2009 (With Lyrics)

  2. I’m On A Boat (ft T-Pain) - Album Version

  3. Miley Cyrus - The Climb - Official Music Video (HQ)
  4. Miley Cyrus - Party In The USA - Official Music Video (HD)

  5. Black Eyed Peas “Boom Boom Pow”

Firstly, I’m not even going to talk about the double dose of Miley Cyrus.

On the worldwide rankings, Ms Boyle also scored the top gong, but with a different video. The video that gave her entry into the Aussie list is one with optional lyrics. So we love Su-Bo but we like karaoke even more! Coming in at number two on the worldwide favourite clips is my personal favourite, David After Dentist. It’s a clip of a young boy uttering some comedy gold whilst still under the influence of dentist-induced anesthetics: “Is this real life?”
