Jump the IE6 ship!
If you are reading this post from Internet Explorer, I give you permission to immediately close this window and re-open it in an alternative browser (Chrome, Firefox or Safari). It has been reported that France and Germany have urged users to jump the Microsoft ship due to rising security concerns. The biggest threats are for those still using IE6, so if you can’t bear to split from your old faithful, at least upgrade it to the slightly more secure IE8 (which is obviously the option Microsoft is urging punters to go for). The recommendations come after it was revealed last week’s Google-targeted cyberattacks utilised an IE6 vulnerability.
Hold onto your iPhones Apple fans; the highly anticipated Apple tablet is shaping up for a January 27 launch. While the official notifications have left out any mention of the tablet specifically, the event is being held for Apple to display its “latest creation”. And as was reported on Mashable, “if anything other than the Apple tablet (potentially named iSlate) is revealed, it would be a bigger surprise than the tablet itself”. The tablet is set to present as a potential threat to Amazon’s Kindle and could provide a new e-commerce channel for newspapers and magazines.
For the ultimate in brand marketing and self-promotion, TwittaBling is an Israeli company offering to turn your Twitter username into a glittering piece of wearable art. While it seems most suited to the sort of “brand marketing” done by bling-drenched hip hop artists, respected technology blog TechCrunch is singing the company’s praises, suggesting TwittaBling for business may not be too far-fetched. The company can even make Twitter-fied wedding bands in 14k yellow or white gold. Perhaps a perfect option for that American bloke that tweeted during his wedding - in some downtime between the “I do” and the “You may now kiss the bride”.
