People who like this - Facebook ditches fans

It’s time to get Facebooking! You’ve probably (hopefully) already hooked your business up with a Facebook fan page, but you might not be aware that the super social giant has rolled out a fresh “Like” button to replace the old “Become a fan” terminology. What does this mean for you? Well, you know how punters are quick to “Like” anything from a status update about a spaghetti spill to a change in relationship status? Now you can get in on the click-happy good times.

Update your fan page with current info, include a few links to recent blog posts or media mentions and get fan/like requesting! Once a new fan’s newsfeed displays they have “liked” your brand, business or product, their friends will have the option presented to them of simply clicking “Like” on this activity - the same as any status update. The difference is now though, by liking this action, this friend then also becomes one of your page’s “People who like this” - or what was previously known more simply as a fan.

While it’s yet another (and probably the first of many more this week given their f8 conference is taking place) Facebook change that users are set to either love or hate, there’s a pretty high chance you can up your Facebook community fan-base. And as we reported, a Facebook fan is been noted as having a worth of around $3.60.

The new lingo change doesn’t alter the way you interact with your flock but Facebook have reportedly said in the past that this move reflects: “a simple, consistent way for people to connect with the things they are interested in … in fact, people click “Like” almost two times more than they click “Become a Fan” everyday.”

So if Facebook is where you find your social media objectives are reached fastest, now is the time to get out there and find more “People who like this”.
