Microsoft fights back while Bieber breaks Facebook

After this week’s rumour that Google offices are ditching staff access to Windows, Microsoft has hit back saying that “even hackers admit we’re doing a better job making our products more secure than anyone else”. (Windows Blog via Mashable) While the big old IE6 elephant lumbers in a darkened corner of the room, Microsoft’s Brandon LeBlanc is quick to point out the security benefits of the Windows 7 operating system and its support of IE8.

While Microsoft has come under much more security scrutiny over the years than Apple’s Mac OS, Stan Schroeder puts it this way - “It all boils down to the old question: Are hackers and malware writers targeting Windows because it’s not secure enough, or because it’s the biggest target out there?”

In other online safety news, Facebook’s universal Like button has - not surprisingly - been taken hostage by a variety of attackers. The most recent ‘clickjacking’? “Justin Biebers Phone Number Leaked!” Mashable have got the full details on the ins and outs of the bad bug and the best way to battle it but, as always, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. (If you are one that would be interested in young Bieber’s contact information anyway)

A notification about the changes to Facebook’s privacy controls was plastered above your news feed earlier this week but, in case you skipped over updating or at least checking your settings, it’s most definitely worth taking a few minutes to look things over. Even if it’s just to make sure that creepy friend of a friend can’t see your personal email address or family photos.
