iPhone 4 and social media stats
Doing his best to counteract the predicted anti-climax of the official iPhone 4 release this week, (due to that pesky Gizmodo expose) Steve Jobs presented the ins and outs of the newest handset and further expanded on the iPhone OS 4 - or the iOS as it is now known.
While the next generation of iPhones are headed for a sleeker, more metallic future, it’s not just the outer-casing that’s getting the hearts of Apple devotees all a-flutter. Under the hood, as they say, the iPhone 4 boasts a stunning “resolutionary” LCD display, major improvements to the camera (including the long-awaited front camera) and a 40% improvement in battery life. There are also all those new software features we discussed, such as multitasking, background images, app folders and the iAd platform. And in the wake of the Bing-as-iPhone’s-default-search rumours that have swirled recently, Jobs clarified that while Bing will now become an option, Google will still be the default engine.
For those that aren’t salivating at the prospect of a new Apple product, perhaps a little social media news is necessary. According to comScore (via TechCrunch) “Facebook attracted 130 million unique U.S. visitors in May, 2010, an increase of 8.6 million people,” which, given the recent privacy scuffles, may be a bitter pill for those championing the Quit Facebook cause.
Interestingly too, Twitter is on the rise hitting two billion tweets per month. Had Facebook’s rates been plateauing, let alone on the decline, this might be more expected for Twitter. Perhaps concerned Facebookers have been scoping out their options? Or perhaps Twitter is just doing all the right things at the moment. As a company, they certainly have a cleaner profile than many others in their playing field.
